The Grizzly Paw Brewing Company is a craft brewery and brewpub located in the heart of the Canadian Rockies. Our brewing operations include a 20,000 square foot landmark brewery, a pub, restaurant, taproom, and event space.

We are looking for an outgoing and knowledgeable colleague who is willing to learn and ready to provide our customers with memorable experiences!

SUMMARY OF POSITION:

Reporting to the Controller, the Assistant Controller is a key point of contact for the administration and accounting teams, supporting financial and operational activities across the brewery, soda manufacturing, two full‑service restaurants, two F&B outlets, and retail operations. Based out of the brewing facility, this hands‑on role requires the flexibility to work across locations, strong administrative and technical accounting skills, and the ability to make confident, well‑informed decisions. Success in this role relies on strong relationship‑building skills, as the Assistant Controller regularly collaborates with internal teams, engages with customers, and works with government and regulatory bodies, all while helping keep the books—and the business—running smoothly.

WHAT YOU’LL DO (A.K.A. HOW YOU KEEP THE BEER — AND THE BOOKS — FLOWING):

  • Be a key financial partner to operations, accounting, and leadership teams across the brewery, soda manufacturing, restaurants, F&B outlets, and retail operations
  • Play a hands‑on role in preparing monthly financial statements, supporting schedules, and management reporting — from first pour to final close
  • Prepare, review, and post journal entries and complete balance sheet reconciliations to keep the books clean and audit‑ready
  • Own weekly and monthly reporting that helps operations understand costs, margins, and performance (COGS, labor, sales, and surprises we actually want to know about)
  • Oversee banking operations, including cash receipts, deposits, reconciliations, and recordings across multiple revenue streams
  • Maintain and monitor accounts receivable, ensuring timely collections across wholesale, retail, events, and group functions
  • Handle group function and event invoicing so every pint, plate, and private booking gets billed accurately
  • Receive and reconcile beer and soda payments, including direct customer payments and AGLC remittances
  • Review wholesale invoicing to ensure accuracy, compliance, and proper revenue recognition
  • Prepare and file GST and other monthly tax filings with confidence and consistency
  • Support audit preparation by organizing schedules, backing documentation, and acting as a steady point of contact
  • Help shape and improve accounting and operational SOPs as the business continues to grow and evolve
  • Provide guidance, mentoring, and hands‑on support to accounting staff, raising the bar for accuracy and efficiency
  • Step in to lead the accounting function during the Controller’s absence — keeping everything running smoothly behind the scenes

QUALIFICATIONS AND EDUCATION:

  • 2-3 years’ experience in a supervisory role in accounting
  • Extensive knowledge of the craft beer industry and a passion for all things beer.
  • Strong knowledge with a variety of software programs required: Microsoft Office, EKOS, Quickbooks, Toast, etc.
  • Degree or certification in Accounting or related discipline a strong asset
  • Detail oriented with the ability to be flexible and work well under pressure
  • Excellent interpersonal skills, with strong written and verbal communication abilities

THE PERKS!

  • Work for one of the largest (and OG) craft breweries in the province in a state of the art 20,000 sq./ft. facility (with sweet mountain views)
  • After work pints
  • Flexible schedule with option to regularly work from home and onsite
  • Work with an awesome team (we know every company says this… but we’re the real deal I promise)
  • Legendary staff parties & events throughout the year (ask about the Grizzly Paw Olympics)
  • Free special access to sponsored events (Canmore Eagles Hockey Club, Alberta XC World Cup, Grizzly Ultra Marathons + whatever other cool stuff we get up to in the future!)
  • Did we mention after work pints?
